Tom Fenton operated the Salamander Press in Edinburgh, Scotland, from 1981-1987. Over its short history, The Salamander Press established itself as an important, independently run press that published some of the most influential and critically acclaimed writers of the past half-century, including James Fenton, John Fuller, Andrew Motion, Craig Raine, Redmond O'Hanlon, and others.
Tom Fenton's early publishing style was heavily influenced by John Fuller’s workmanship at The Sycamore Press. In addition to a similar aesthetic style, the two publishers also share responsibility for publishing the early works of James Fenton, the highly regarded British poet and essayist who from 1994-1999, served as Oxford Professor of Poetry (a position previously held by literary notables such as W. H. Auden and Seamus Heaney).
The Salamander Press books and pamphlets are arranged below by year of publication. Research is ongoing to determine the exact order of chronological publication.
